These are the first visits of this year to Table Mt and no obvious issues were found, other than continued deterioration of the tower and its associated hardware.

The following actions were taken:

  • The cable from the microwave radio to the internet switch was replaced to solve a slow LAN problem (10 Mb should be 1000 Mb). The old cable, which passes through to the outside, was left in place in case there is some use for it in the future.
    • When this was done, the radio underwent a hard restart and when it stabilized, the link connection was much better than before (zero dropped packets as opposed to 1-4% dropped packets).
  • The Barix box was replaced with one updated with streaming client firmware – this was recommended by BARIX and seems to work better.
  • The issue with no communication with the transmitter (noticed a couple of months ago) was investigated and it was found that the issue was more difficult than could be dealt with in this visit.
    • On the next visit (July 8), the firmware and OS were updated as suggested by the manufacturer, and this solved the remote communication problem to the transmitter. Remote communication is needed as it has happened that the transmitter has shut down and if there is no remote communication then the only way to restart it is to go up to TM.
